Series: Nesting Gulls 2025

My rounds on Sunday morning revealed that a majority of the nests now have chicks.

Clipper Nest #2

Three older chicks spotted right after feeding time.

Clipper Nest #1

Although I only saw one chick at this nest on my previous visit (looking now, I think there is a second gull hiding in between the blocks…), I found three this time, hanging out at their favourite spot. (The third one is tucked away between the blocks.)

Fountain Nest

The chicks have found a spot outside of the foliage, and it looks like we’ve got two chicks at this nest.

To my surprise I spotted a group of three chicks on another level of the same building Fountain Nest is located on. Both adults were present, although one left before I got this photo. I’ve never seen a nest at this location during previous years and given how obvious it is, I would be surprised if I missed it.

There are at least two chicks present at Sake Nest.

Umbrella Nest

I arrived shortly after feeding time to find there are three chicks at this nest.

Hornby Nest

Far away, but I was able to make out three chicks.

Silver Seas Nest

This is a difficult location to see chicks, but I was able to spot one just peeking out above the ledge.

Continental Nest

I was still somewhat tentative about this being a nest, but I spotted a chick and adult!

Rainbow Nest

Last week on my way home, I saw a worker on the roof where this nest is located. The gulls were agitated and circling low as he swung a power cord over his head to keep them away. I feel physically ill when I see nests being disturbed. However, I was relieved to see two chicks present.

Square Nest

Square Nest

An adult still brooding at this nest. Given how long it has been, I’m starting to suspect this nest may fail.

Crossfit Nest

One chick in this photo, but I think I saw a second from another angle. They tend to hide well on this rooftop.

Cambie Nest

As usual, the chicks were hiding behind the chimneys, out of the sun. I did get one photo of a chick trying to get its parent’s attention (resting on top of the chimney, just above.)

Burrard Nest #4 / Banded Gull

Burrard Nest #4 / Banded Gull

I spotted this banded gull at Burrard Nest #4 – the same nest I saw it at last year. It’s reassuring to see this gull again.

Last week I spent a while watching two adults seemingly working on this nest location, when I arrived this weekend the nest was empty and there were no gulls nearby.

I’ve updated my QGIS map with the latest information. You can find it here.

Until next time.
