Series: Nesting Gulls 2026

I don’t have any preamble, I just want to get this update out!

Continental Nest

Continental Nest

Continental Nest

The chick at Continental Nest with both parents present. It was begging for food, but didn’t get any while I was watching.

Clipper Nest #1

Clipper Nest #1

Clipper Nest #1

I found two chicks at Clipper Nest #1 (one is napping inside the brick). Although I didn’t seem them, I suspect there are chicks at Clipper Nest #2 – they often end up a corner that conceals them.

Burrard Nest #2

Burrard Nest #2

Burrard Nest #2

More activity at the Burrard Nests. Here at #2 where I only saw two chicks last sruvey, there are in fact three.

Buarrd Nest #4

Buarrd Nest #4

Buarrd Nest #4

I saw some gulls around this site earlier in the season, but the locaiton of the nest makes it almost impossible to photograph. However, here’s proof that there was a nest there again this season, and they’ve got at least one chick.

Chimney Nest

Chimney Nest

All three chicks are still present on this rather precarious nest. I’m really happy to see the smallest one still seems to be doing fine.

Grassy Nest

Grassy Nest

Grassy Nest

Something seems to have gone down at Grassy Nest as I could only find two chicks. Previously there were three.

Bridges Nest (new!)

Bridges Nest (new!)

Bridges Nest (new!)

While making my way across the Granville Street Bridge, I check out all the gulls I can spot loafing around Granville Island to try and spot any banded birds. While scanning the usual spots, I was surprised to find a new nest (with a chick!) I’ve never seen before. You can just make it out on the platform between the r and i of Bridges.

Here’s a zoomed-in view of the nest site.

Culinary Nest

Culinary Nest

Culinary Nest

The two chicks at Culinary Nest were fast asleep in the sun. I waited a while to get a better photograph, but they didn’t budge.

Brick Nest

Brick Nest

Brick Nest

I was a surprised to find a parent still brooding at Brick Nest. If the nest hasn’t failed, we will undoubtedly be seeing some chicks on the next survey.

Corner Nest

Corner Nest

Corner Nest

The two chicks at Corner nest have started exploring the small balcony they’re located on.

Apartment Nest

Apartment Nest

Apartment Nest

Another nest that is invisible until the chicks are active. A watched for a while and only saw one chick.

Old Bridge Nest

Old Bridge Nest

Old Bridge Nest

I was expecting to see some chicks at this nest, but instead found it abandoned. There was no parent around anywhere on the rooftop, and despite searching for some time I was unable to find any sign of chicks.

Fountain Nest #2

Fountain Nest #2

Fountain Nest #2

Fountain Nest #2 is yet another nest that can’t be seen until the chicks are active. I was able to spot two on this pass.

Sake Nest

Sake Nest

Sake Nest

On the last survey I counted two chicks at Sake Nest, but there are three: one on the nest, one near the center of the photo, and one to the right.

Silver Seas Nest

Silver Seas Nest

Silver Seas Nest

I was able to confirm Silver Seas Nest is active again. I had seen adults around the location, but this time I briefly spotted at least two chicks running around the rooftop.

Finally, here’s a link to the updated interactive map.

Until next time..
