Sept 2nd - Under the pier
With the nest monitoring now over, I realized I need something else to spur me to write a weekly post.
I’ll post a few photos and a few links to what I’ve read or watched in the previous week that I found particularly interesting.
Reading
Last week I finished (re-)reading Nick Lane’s Transformer: The Deep Chemistry of Life and Death, a wide-ranging exploration of the Krebs Cycle and its central role in cellular metabolism. While not an easy read, Nick Lane writes better than anyone about the complexities of biochemistry for those with little knowledge of the field.
Even if you can’t keep up with the minutiae of enzymes and proton gradients, Transformer will push the boundaries of your comprehension of the living world we miraculously find ourselves in.
If this book sounds too intimidating, I highly recommend you try one if his other books, like The Vital Question or Life Ascending.
If you prefer video, try this:
