Radio Garden
Despite our ideas of the internet being mostly infiltrated by companies with grotesque amounts of money, there are still countless territories that have not been colonized by them. Space that can surprise and exemplify how digital technologies can function to expand rather than contract our perception & understanding.
Radio.garden is one of those territories that embodies what is possible. A database of radio stations scattered across our pale blue dot that you can listen to online, projected onto a digital globe. It brings me back to the 1990s when I spent late nights scanning through the dial of a shortwave radio, catching the ghosts of broadcasts from across oceans.
Visit the site, and I suspect you’ll spend an hour stumbling around this strange globe, listening to our many voices.
Do you have any links to sites more people should know about? Let me know – my email can be found in the icons to the left.
Happy new year. How strange to be here.
